Three years ago, the Lukas Foundation laid the first stone for what has become a Centre for young people with heavily-dependent disabilities, located in Sant Joan d’Alacant. After that first stone, which filled us with excitement, came many more, and after a year of hard work the FLK Centre was up and running.
Anne Marie Otten, the Foundation’s president, welcomed all the guests at its inauguration, also thanking all the people and companies for their support, thanks to whom the Centre became a reality. Little by little, many children and young people with disabilities have been discovering the various therapies and activities that the FLK Centre offers, and every day more of them enjoy our facilities and therapists.
But the dreams of all of us who are part of the Foundation did not end there and, again thanks to the help of our members and sponsors, we began construction on the Lukas Foundation Residence-Home: a place designed to meet the crucial needs of people with severe disabilities, as well as the needs of their families. Our aim has been to prioritize the human aspect and to actively involve families and the community.
This year we have achieved our dream and the first young residents, who will live there full-time, settled into their rooms and started to discover every space in their new home.
Ismael and Adrián are the first, and soon other young people with disabilities will live in this special home, enjoying the care of qualified staff 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
